The Playbook

Shout out to Jen Q for having an exemplar playbook!

The Playbook is a method by which scholars keep guided notes on a consistent basis. It’s meant to accompany the packet of independent practice and house key ideas, important vocabulary and at least one example of work done on a given day. As with any other teaching/learning practice, consistency is key to make this really live on a daily basis. Mr. Vasquez normally starts class with a 2 min window where students are allowed to update their playbook by copying their Aim/Mathcabulary Words. This leads into copying/executing a timed challenge called the Mad Minute and then we’re into the first problem aligned to the Aim that I have pre-selected as one we’re going to tackle together. Parents are encouraged to review the content of their child's playbook for neatness and accuracy.

Playbook Essentials

The heading could be placed along the top left corner of the page with any pertinent fact of the day or quotation to focus the scholar thought.

Vocabulary or Key Points may live on the top right corner, and include(s) information that depends on what point of the unit we’re in. This section may also be used for a teacher-created exemplar or to note the criteria for success.

Examples are placed under the heading. Depending on the amount of variations you want to display you could use this space strategically to your advantage. One strategy used last school year included placing a 4-question Mad Minute, 1 example (that was annotated on the class whiteboard while this page is placed on the doc cam) and the Criteria for Success for any given lesson.

Playbooks are graph ruled spiraled notebooks which are offered free of charge to every student.
